My teaching methodology centers around the belief that every student's learning journey is unique. I am dedicated to meeting students where they are, understanding their individual educational needs, and crafting lessons that directly respond to those needs. By doing so, I create an environment where difficult content becomes accessible and engaging.
My approach emphasizes three critical areas: first, helping students understand challenging subject matter; second, guiding them to make informed ethical judgments about historical events; and third, nurturing their historical thinking skills for in-depth analysis. One of my strengths lies in aiding students' comprehension and analysis of primary source documents using the OPVL framework – Origin, Purpose, Value, Limitation. This methodology enables students to unravel the layers of meaning within historical texts, fostering a deeper understanding of context and perspective. Moreover, I specialize in preparing students for Document-Based Question (DBQ) assessments, equipping them with the skills to dissect complex historical scenarios and construct cohesive arguments. Furthermore, I am skilled in enhancing students' written communication abilities. From crafting robust argumentative thesis statements to organizing their writing in a clear and logical manner supported by historical evidence and examples, I guide students through the art of effective historical writing. With me, students will not only learn about the past but also develop the critical skills required to analyze, understand, and articulate historical complexities in a coherent and persuasive manner. Lessons will be tailored to the goals of the student, which can include: - Assistance with essay writing, including organization, editing, and mechanics of writing - Source analysis practice, using IB formats such as OPVL and DBQ - Assessment and assignment support. Executive functioning support also available, including organization and time management.
