About Lee
Background: I have a B.S. in Applied Math, about half a degree in physics, and I've worked as a data scientist now for about two years making mathematical/computational models of risk from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards. I also have a publication out on modeling effects of various fishery management strategies on coral reef conservation.
I'm competent with C++, C#, Python, R, and SQL, can teach any math from pre-algebra through Calc 3, programming up to OOP, and physics 1 and 2 (for classes beyond these, just message me and I will give you my honest take on whether I feel I remember it well enough :-))
Aside from professional qualifications, I like matcha lattes

I'll adapt to whatever the student needs for their particular situation and what they are looking to learn, but my general philosophy is that learning is an active process, so when I'm working with someone, I try to go into it as if I am solving the problem with them like a peer, voicing my thought process and listening to theirs (and often, that is what's actually happening anyways!). Overall, I want students to understand the core concepts in their own way so that they can feel confident in their own thinking when approaching unfamiliar or daunting subjects.
What will click with someone varies widely from person to person -- some people learn better by seeing the concept from a bunch of worked examples, some people would rather see behind the curtain first so that they have a conceptual starting point rather than correlating new problems to ones they've seen, and of course sometimes people (understandably) don't want to spend too much time trying to get something deeply when they've got a test to pass and several other classes demanding their attention.
That to me is the niche that tutoring is meant to fill --you can only get so much from listening to a lecture, whereas tutoring is inherently individualized.
