About Christopher
My name is Chris and I started taking guitar lessons in my dad's music store when I was 8 years old. I played guitar, French Horn, and piano through all my school years and college. I got a BA in Music from SFSU and moved to NYC shortly after, where I started playing in bands that toured the US and Europe from 1996 - 2023. My latest band was an all heavy metal tribute to The Bee Gees, and we played festivals and clubs all over the globe. I've also been scoring soundtracks for TV shows since 2002, among others: Inside Amy Schumer, Ugly Americans, Delocated, Wonder Showzen, and The Heart She Holler. In 2013 I won a ProMax award for music composition for The Sundance Channel.

As a tutor (and human being), I know that each individual is unique and will learn, understand and experience new skills differently. Because I took lessons starting at age 8 and have been involved in music ever since...playing in bands, recording, composing, teaching, and taking lessons, I have a good sense of a student's instincts and comprehension, what areas need more attention and focus, and also in what areas the student thrives. As a teacher, I focus on and encourage the musician in those areas that need the attention as well as the areas where they thrive. I will teach you from the very beginning...proper posture, fingering for scales, how to properly fret chords, how to strum, how to fingerpick, and how to put it all together to play your favorite songs or write your own. Music is a joy. There's hard work and discipline, but it should be fun! My lessons are for beginners...anywhere from never having picked up an instrument, to someone who used to play a little, but never stuck with it and really want to learn.
