About Aleksandra
I am Aleksandra and I have been teaching maths in top secondary schools in Oxford for the last 8 years. I can also offer help with subject specific language and deliver classes in English, Russian, Latvian and Spanish.
In my classes I want to make sure that my students develop deeper conceptual understanding and learn to think independently and solve problems. With the new curriculum (both for GCSE and A-levels) in the UK there is bigger focus on problem-solving and application type questions.
I have PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and MSc from Oxford University and for the last 8 years I have been helping my students to achieve their maximum potential whilst focusing on individual needs and students' metacognitive strategies. I am working in one of the top schools in Oxford where I constantly keep updating my skills and knowledge via different Professional Development Programs.
I am originally from Latvia and I have experienced myself what it means to think and operate in many other languages. I can help students with subject specific language and translations in Russian, Latvian and Spanish.

My teaching philosophy is based on individual approach to students' needs and learning for understanding rather than just exams. I truly believe that if a student is engaged and motivated he or she will able to attempt even the most challenging problems in maths. I like to talk to my students about their experiences and different teaching methods that have/have not worked for them. Decision-making and opportunity to discuss different strategies in learning is a crucial point to success.
