About Gemma

I have been working in education for over 10 years. I am passionate about early reading skills and building children's confidence in reading. As a phonics specialist and current phonics lead in my school, I will be able to help your child learn to read through targeted interventions. Their fast progress will in turn help them access other areas of the curriculum and they will therefore develop in all subject areas.
As Science lead, I am also available to help your child gain a better understanding of the primary curriculum, helping them to deepen their knowledge and practical enquiry skills, and prepare them for more complex learning in high school.
Finally my expertise in the Singapore Maths approach will accelerate any progress in Maths, using a “concrete-pictorial-abstract” methodology to embed mathematical concepts.

I tailor all lessons to the child’s needs. I ensure we work towards weekly goals, that over time support progress towards a larger target. I provide weekly feedback to parents so they can understand the progress that has been made.
I am available to tutor children in any subject, though especially interested in teaching phonics or early reading skills.
