About Emma
I have 4 years experience teaching KS3 and GCSE level English in the same post, for which I was offered a permanent position at the end of the first year. Not just limited to time in the classroom, I also worked on an after-school basis helping students who needed to repeat various GCSE examinations. My school is an all-ability secondary, giving me a depth of experience in both supporting weaker pupils and stretching and challenging gifted and talented pupils.
I have tutored several pupils on a private basis, at both GCSE and A-Level - thus far, these particular pupils have received their desired results in English, usually after undertaking resit exams, for topics they struggled with without private tuition.
I am proficient in teaching the new CCEA GCSE specification for English Language and Literature. I have worked with CCEA as an examiner myself, for both English Language and English Literature exams. This experience has given me a very precise outlook on the features of a high/competent level response, which will be a valuable asset to my future teaching.

A great interpersonal skill of mine is my ability to relate to the young person on their level. I think this is essential, that I need to see how the child views the subject, and then use this to help them overcome any barriers they may have. Using practical methods, I teach with the exam in mind, and tailor exam technique steps that will suit the individual student. I aim to help children not only enjoy their learning in the subject, but to also feel a sense of reward through constant courage and praise, which is vital in motivating the pupil to achieve their highest possible result.
