About Jesse
I have a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience and have taught at university for over 25 years. My scholarly focus for the last 10 years has been on the science of learning, or how people learn. The methods I have developed are based on the principles underlying this science and focus on teaching people to develop advanced thinking skills. I have tutored individual students for a number of years, sometimes subject-specific and sometimes working to enhance learning and thinking skills.

My teaching methods are based on The Science of Learning (of which I am a leading researcher). My successful methods are getting students to understand what it is that they are trying to learn. As an example, it is very surprising how many students have no idea how to really answer the question, "What is a number for?". As one of my students, who went from averaging D+ to C in her 9th-grade math to getting almost straight A's in her math (and other subjects as well) asked me, "Why don't our regular teachers do what you do? Once I learned what the principles of algebra were, the problems were easy."
