About Shirley

I am a native Vietnamese speaker and I started learning English at the age of five. I was fluent by age nine after attending a British curriculum international school. Growing up, I learned several languages, both academically and leisurely, including French, Spanish, Norwegian, and Korean. Fast-forward, and I graduated with bachelor's in English and Spanish. All this is to say that I like to take a linguistic approach in learning languages, accompanied by academic background and personal experience.

About the lesson

In order to best help you, I take into account your native language and its grammar and syntax rules, as well as phonetics. Every accent is beautiful and indicative of an individual's ethnic and cultural origin, ergo it is not something to be ashamed of. There are many accents and dialects in the English language. I give instruction primarily with the standard American accent, and I will work with you with a heavy focus on tongue placement — the organ that dictates verbal language. Alongside being a partner to practice conversation with, I value learning through different interactive activities that challenge your capabilities.
