About Tim
My tutoring is aimed at all ages, from primary to high school students, especially those interested in becoming productive and keen learners. I am a 2nd-year Psychology and Philosophy student at the University of Otago. A Scholarship winner and a top 5% performing student. I have been tutoring and helping other students for several years. Teaching times are flexible with each lesson individually tailored to suit students' needs and goals.

I teach Psychology, English, History, Philosophy, and Sociology. Most high school subjects are essay-based, meaning high-level writing significantly increases your performance. For this reason, my teaching takes a dialectic approach to learning. This means encouraging two-way conversations between the student and with study material. I like to make myself as approachable as possible so that the student feels comfortable enough to ask any questions they may have. My lessons are suited to the student by focusing on finding their learning style to teach them best. Tutoring is an opportunity for the student to gain the most out of their session and I do this by promoting active learning. Students will interact in a way where they recite the concepts to me to strengthen their understanding of the information taught. This also gives me an idea of the progress being made to better my teaching from this insightful observation. I believe learning is not just about meeting criteria but a skill that itself can be learned. Your future tutor, Tim :)
