The best approach is to build a rapport with the students and then make the concept understand to them as per their capabilities. We as personal tutor should adapt to student's needs. Frequent and honest communication with both student and parent helps a lot in understand the things. Another aspect to be taken into consideration is that a teacher should be flexible and patient in his approach.
