As a tutor and demonstrator for the University of Edinburgh I have found many students struggle to understand abstract concepts and struggle with teachers offering only one way of explaining things. My best quality as a teacher is my ability to find examples, metaphors and different ways to explain concepts so they become understandable for all students.
Having taught both primary, secondary and undergraduate students I am able to adapt my approach the the appropriate level of my students. This involves making things fun for younger children and making sure things are kept interesting for older students.
Starting my PGDE primary teaching degree in August, I will work as a tutor to gain more experience and to be able to put to practice what I am learning.
I have extensive experience in teaching younger children with light or more severe behavioural problems, focussing on finding a way which makes children want to learn and even enjoy it, instead of forcing them.
I have worked as a demonstrator and tutor for the University of Edinburgh for the past three years. Before that I have tutored primary and secondary school children in the Netherlands.
As a climbing instructor I have coached and trained children, teenagers and adults. This includes various groups from the National Team training to a training group for children with behavioural and developmental problems.
