About Jackson

Hi y'all. I'm a physics and econ student at UVA. I have done tutoring professionally all 3 years of college after developing a knack for teaching by tutoring friends and family throughout high school as well as teaching kids how to play rugby.

I used to play bass, and am picking up guitar now. I like to read about psychology and philosophy when I'm sick of reading WSJ. I still play a little rugby, and I spend free time in the gym.

I have found particular success in working with kids who don't get enough attention from their teacher and kids who aren't too good at paying attention (yet). This partially stems from me having grown up with the same issues, and partially form the reading I enjoy doing. I've applied lessons learned over the years to help my tutees learn to focus so that they learn a little during our session, but also get better at learning in class.

If your student could use help in math this semester, I offer 1:1 tutoring in person near UVA or virtually.

While I have tutored many subjects, I have found a relatively strong demand for math help. I work with students who need more than extra practice. A lot of the time, the real issue is not a lack of effort or reps. It is that math starts feeling random, rushed, or disconnected. I focus on helping students actually understand what they are doing, so they can solve problems with more confidence and less memorization.

Why work with me?
- UVA student studying Applied Physics and Economics
- Strong at explaining math clearly and intuitively
- Focus on helping students think through problems, not just copy steps
- Friendly, structured, and adaptive to each student’s level

What sessions look like
- Identify the actual weak points
- Break concepts down into plain English
- Practice translating words and ideas into math
- Build problem-solving confidence and better habits
- Work on homework support, review, or ongoing skill-building
- Focus on test taking skills

Logistics
- In person: near UVA / Charlottesville
- Virtual: ongoing option available
- Session length: 60–75 minutes ($50/hour)
- References available

To get started, text (concealed information) or email (concealed information) with the student’s grade level, current class, and what they need help with.

My goal is simple: make math feel a lot less frustrating and a lot more manageable.

Details

I have an incredibly busy schedule and value my time a lot, and have found $50/hr to be both fair compensation as well as surprisingly competitive in this market. My truck is really messed up, so I do charge a high travel fee if I'm going outside biking/walking distance.
