I have been tutoring mathematics for the better part of the last six years. This year I started working at my college's tutorial center for mathematics. I am also studying to become a math teacher and I am in my second-to-last year of my degree.

I typically try to get a feel for how the students learn before deciding how to go through with tutoring. So at first, I will try a hands on approach, then a word problem to try to put the question into some context and then finally give them a step by step example that looks like the question. Based on these attempts I will gauge which works best and continue from there.
