About Eleanor
Hello, I'm Eleanor. I'm a recent graduate of the University of Toronto, specializing in Neuroscience, a field that deeply informs my current work teaching AI and its applications. Prior to this, I spent two years as a researcher contributing to climate change research. This diverse background—from the intricacies of the brain and global systems to cutting-edge AI—allows me to bring a unique, interdisciplinary perspective to my students. Outside of my professional life, I balance the intensity of technology with the joy of cooking and walking my Australian Shepherd.

My approach to tutoring centers on active learning and conceptual mastery, moving beyond passive memorization. My primary techniques include the Socratic Method, where I guide students through questions to reach their own conclusions, and scaffolding, where I break complex topics into manageable steps and remove support as their confidence grows. I always aim for contextualization, connecting abstract material to real-world applications to make learning relevant and memorable. A typical session follows a four-part structure: we start by Check-in and Goal Setting to review previous material and define the day's objectives; then, during Guided Inquiry, we explore new concepts together using analogies; next, Independent Practice and Error Analysis has the student tackle problems while I guide them to self-correct conceptual errors; and finally, Synthesis and Homework concludes the lesson with student summaries and an assignment for spaced repetition. What sets me apart is my dedication to building the student's academic independence through a highly customized curriculum and my focus on identifying and remediating foundational knowledge gaps. I also actively coach students on essential study skills, such as effective note-taking and test strategies.
