About Mico
I am a university student in the process of earning my BHA, specializing in studio art which encompasses illustration, design, painting and digital art. I began drawing like everyone else, with nothing but a pencil, paper, curiosity and a wish. The wish was simple but enough, I wanted to be able to draw the things I liked. I believe everyone, no matter their specialty, has a creative side and untapped artistic potential. And so, my first promise as a tutor is to provide an environment which fosters creative development, one which anyone can feel confident expressing themselves in and by anyone, I mean anyone, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, age, or artistic experience.
I have taught classes with students ranging from beginners to intermediate artists, who all required different methods. I believe that I hold unlimited patience for my students regardless of their level or ability. Beginners do not have to worry about judgement as I was also once a beginner and I understand the trials that come with taking that first step to being a creative. Experienced artists can be sure to expect a challenge, one that will push them to the next level and guide them on their journey as an artist. I love art, I love making art, I love people who love art and I love helping people love art.

Having experience teaching in workshops and classes, I've come to realize that every student is different and as a result, my teaching approach will also vary to accommodate each individual.
I always start by building a connection with my student and learning about their interests because after all, the idea is the machine that creates the art, and ideas stem from your interests. With that information, I will proceed to develop a personalized lesson plan that is made with the intention to not only cultivate technical ability but also creative thinking and problem solving.
For example, if a student's interest is in Manga illustration, I would begin by familiarizing myself with their favourite Manga and deconstructing the artistic techniques used while also learning more about the Mangaka (manga illustrator). Then I would set an objective for the student. If the student is the beginner, the objective may be along the lines of telling a short story through one page, incorporating story-writing, story-telling, story boarding, compositional techniques, landscape design and character illustration. Then the lessons will proceed to lead towards this end goal by developing each of these skills individually and so the student is capable of thinking of all of these not as individual skills but parts of a bigger picture, with the picture being the creation of manga.
As a tutor and artist, I believe passion and drive will take one farther than gifts of talent ever will. Starting from nothing as an artist, I can empathize with students who may be struggling to find a way to start as I, too, once did not know what to do. And so, I would like to be there for the student to guide them through this meticulous process and develop their passion for the craft.
These lessons are designed for all levels and there is no requirement needed as I am highly capable of adapting to all levels. Beginners are given an especially warm welcome.
