About Maya
I have extensive university and high school volunteer involvement in the English and World Literature department. I was also a teaching assistant that facilitated workshops for essay writing. I prepared my own materials which are still in circulation. In addition to being an English major, I also read and write a lot in my free time to ensure my skill set remains as sharp as possible. I can also attest to my patient disposition from my experience as a nanny and dog walker for a variety of large dogs.

I have experience in tutoring through my credential as a high school teaching assistant. In university I am involved in disciplines concerned with academic and creative writing. My favorites include English creative writing courses as well as World Languages and Literature. These subjects span critical source analysis and comparison papers. I am an A student at SFU in my third year.
Past students have benefitted from my essay prep organizational methods such as diagrams and chart-style worksheets to develop a strong thesis and supporting evidence. I have a patient disposition and believe being process-oriented is as beneficial as having concrete goals.
My past tutor experience is concentrated at a Grade 12 level. Lesson plans could be tailored as necessary for lower grade levels or even first or second year university English courses.
Tutoring lessons will include in-depth, nuanced and personal feedback with interactive suggestions to promote critical thinking.
I can cover a range of subjects and can bring an interdisciplinary approach when called upon, drawing from my background in university-level psychology and environmental management.
