About Joi

As a tutor, my approach is rooted in clarity, connection, and customization. I work with middle school, high school, and college students, tailoring each lesson to meet your specific academic needs and learning style. My teaching techniques blend direct instruction with guided practice and real-world application, ensuring that you not only understand the material but also gain the confidence to apply it independently. I use a variety of strategies—including visual models, questioning techniques, technology tools like NearPod and EdPuzzle, and scaffolded problem-solving—to make complex concepts more accessible. What sets me apart is my ability to break down difficult math topics into manageable steps while creating a supportive, judgment-free space where you feel encouraged to take risks and ask questions. With years of experience teaching in both in-person and virtual settings, I’ve learned how to adapt content delivery in ways that keep you engaged, whether you’re preparing for a test, building foundational skills, or tackling advanced topics. Every session is driven by data, observation, and honest communication—because I believe you make the most progress when you feel heard, supported, and challenged at just the right level. Let’s work together to meet your goals—on your terms, at your pace!

Hi! I’m Joi Raby, an experienced math educator with over a decade of teaching and tutoring students in middle school, high school, and college-level math. I specialize in making complex concepts simple, engaging, and approachable—whether you're building foundational skills, preparing for exams, or tackling advanced topics. I believe effective tutoring is about more than just answering questions—it's about teaching students how to think. I break down challenging material into clear, manageable steps, using a mix of visual aids, real-world examples, and interactive tools like NearPod, Quizizz, and EdPuzzle to support different learning styles. Each session is personalized to meet you where you are and help you grow with confidence. What makes my approach unique is my ability to connect with students and adapt to their needs in real time. I’ve taught in both in-person and virtual classrooms, led professional development for educators, and coached students toward meaningful gains—including significant increases in standardized test scores and class performance. I focus on building trust, fostering independence, and creating a supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and making progress.
