Learning is fun if presented in the right way.
I provide personalised study programmes tailored just for your child's needs. I use latest research in Child Education, Child Psychology and Teaching Methods as my guidelines.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I prepare kids for 10+, 11+, 13+ exams for grammar and independent schools.
I prepare kids for CEM tests. CSSE. GL assessments. SAT'S.
I teach KS3 Maths

Research methods was my favourite subject in my own Masters, so I am continuously looking for new methods and logical ways to teach verbal and non verbal reasoning instead of just filling in test papers after test papers getting stuck at the same score.
I try to vary resources, and use technology where needed. I don't want to make learning time taxing, children learn better when relaxed.
Treating exams and tests as problem solving exercises or puzzles helps them score better.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Learning is fun, I make it an interesting activity rather than a burden as its a lifelong skill.

I carry out assessment of your child's education needs and style of learning.
I look at the gaps in child's education/learning and make an individualised plan to fill those gaps to build a solid base for future learning.
I use National curriculum as a guideline but am not limited by it.
Our ethos is that every child is unique and learns in his/her own way. If a child is not making progress in a subject, then the teacher needs to find a way that is better suited to that child's learning style.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have been tutoring and mentoring since my student days, Being the head girl, editor of the college magazine, debater, it was part of my responsibilities in our school to mentor new comers.
I officially started tutoring when I was at university.
I have always been interested in the latest research.
The special interest in Gifted Education and Accelerated learning came once I had my own kids, who found school work easy. It reminded me of the fact that we had an accelerated learning program in place at my school and I was able to skip a school year in the early years. I sourced materials and joined programs in the USA where accelerated learning is a known phenomenon and started assisting gifted kids in London. That consequently led us towards the 11+ exams at the most competitive schools in England and the rest is history.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

I teach Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning, SAT preps, 11+ Curriculum for CEM, CSEE and ISEB exams. I prepare kids for 11+ for independent school entry tests and 13+ entry tests. I also teach GCSE Maths.
I mentor young people in making career choices and parent consultations in selecting the right schools for their children.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, the role of a good teacher was instrumental in my upbringing. I was lucky enough to have an exceptional Maths teacher when I was 10, he presented Mental Maths in a really fun way to us. My Arabic teacher was so amazing that I still remember 10 forms of verbs. My literature teacher was a published poet, so it was a joy to be in his company. I would say they truly shaped my choice of career.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

The ability to see beyond a child's achieved grades and into the true potential that they hold.
To be patient and identify the individual traits and learning styles of each student.
To be able to show the kids how learning is not only an essential part of our daily life beyond school but also how to make it an enjoyable activity by generating true interest in the subject at hand.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Interesting facts about me I suppose, but way past my school days.

I have two Master's degrees, one in English Language and Literature and another in Applied Linguistics. I suppose I never wanted to stop studying English.
I secured a place at Cambridge University but decided not to take it as It was a longer commute and I had a young child, so I chose UCL over Cambridge.
I was offered a PhD scholarship from UCL but I decided not to take it up and started my tutoring journey instead. I realise these are unusual choices, and both opportunities were my dream come true situations, but in that moment I made the choices that suited me and I did not regret them. Makes for an interesting story to tell and I can explain to my students to make choices that suit you.
I wrote a book at the age of 22, it was a poetry and theological comparative study.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

I am confident in all my subjects, so I wouldn't say any difficulties per say, but English can be a challenge to teach without getting them interested in reading for pleasure. So that's always my first port of call.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love the fact that as a tutor you have the opportunity to show a different world to the kids. A world full of possibilities. It's fascinating to see the diversity in human nature and individual traits and learning styles. It's a fun way to explore new and innovative methods to meet individual needs. I enjoy seeing them grow into different personalities. As Children we are closest to nature before the external world has changed us fully, I like that opportunity to help shape the path they will take.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

Since I have always enjoyed the process of learning myself and I keep taking up new courses, it comes across to my students and they also start seeing the fun in the process, which just makes their overall experience a joy. I consider learning a lifelong activity and should always be approached with zest and vigour.
