About Jacob
I'm Jacob Groner, a Cornell graduate with degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics, and a minor in Biological Sciences. I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in Computational Neuroscience. I bring real-world teaching experience to tutoring, having worked as an instructor at ID Tech teaching programming. My background spans machine learning, neuroscience, and software development, which allows me to connect academic concepts to their practical applications in cutting-edge technology. I customize my approach to each discipline. In mathematics, I start with worked examples to build intuition, then guide students through problems with progressively less support as confidence grows. For programming, I facilitate student-led projects with targeted implementation suggestions rather than providing code directly.
My lessons typically begin with assessing the student's current understanding, then working through problems or concepts together. I ask guiding questions to develop problem-solving skills rather than simply providing answers. As the lesson progresses, I step back incrementally, encouraging independence and deeper thinking.
