About Vanessa
Hi, I'm Vanessa — a graphic designer and English tutor from South Africa with a passion for making language feel less intimidating and a lot more exciting.
I studied World Literature and completed a course in English Composition, and English Home Language was my strongest subject throughout school — the one that determined whether I moved to the next grade. So yes, I know this language well enough to teach it properly.
What makes my lessons different is that I'm also a designer. That means I don't just explain things — I create visual worksheets, structured activities and clear written materials that actually make sense and look great. No messy notes or boring PDFs. Just well-designed, easy-to-follow lessons built around how YOU learn.

My approach to teaching English is simple: I meet you where you are and make the language feel manageable, relevant and even enjoyable. I don't follow a rigid script — every lesson is tailored to your level, your goals and the way you learn best. What makes me different is my background in graphic design. Every material I create for my students is visually clear and well structured, so instead of messy notes you receive clean, easy-to-follow resources that actually support your learning.
My lessons cover essay writing and composition, conversational English, literature analysis and general English including grammar and vocabulary. Whether you need to write stronger academic essays, speak more naturally and confidently, analyse a text for school or simply build a solid foundation in the language — I can help with all of it.
A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on what felt easy and what felt difficult since we last met. We then work through the main focus of the session — explaining the concept clearly first, then applying it practically straight away. Every lesson ends with a specific takeaway so your progress between sessions is intentional, not accidental.
My lessons are aimed at high school teenagers, adults and non-native English speakers at intermediate level and above who want to move beyond textbook English into real fluency and confidence. I teach in English and am a native South African English speaker with an academic background in World Literature and English Composition.
