As a biology teacher, my approach is centered on fostering a love for science while promoting critical thinking and real-world application of knowledge. I use a blend of teaching techniques to cater to different learning styles, including- Inquiry-Based Learning: I encourage students to ask questions allowing them to explore concepts firsthand. This method promotes curiosity and deeper understanding.
A typical biology class in my curriculum follows this structure:
Introduction (10 minutes): I start with a brief overview of the day's topic, often using a thought-provoking question or a relevant video to capture interest.
Direct Instruction (15-20 minutes): I provide clear explanations of key concepts, often supplemented by visuals, diagrams, and real-life examples.
Review and Q&A (10 minutes): I wrap up with a review of key points and open the floor for questions to clarify any misunderstandings.
Homework (5 minutes): I assign relevant tasks to reinforce learning, which could include research projects, readings, or problem sets.
I offer extra help sessions and am readily available for one-on-one support, ensuring that every student can succeed at their own pace.
My classes are intended for school children as well as college level students.
