In my teaching sessions, I like to go back through the student's own work and talk about different ways in which they can further develop their ideas or style. Moving on from this, to then practice the skills and techniques we have discussed, I like to then support and talk through how the student might approach another similar exercise. For example, going through a past paper which the student will have completed alone, and then with a new paper, discussing and planning how the student might answer another question of this style. This allows the student to grow and build confidence at each point. The student will then complete that question outside of the lesson.
I have just graduated from Durham University with a degree in Classics. I have such a passion for the Latin language, and this is something I would love to inspire in other students; although classical studies might seem intimidating, with support, explanations and attention, they can be made not only accessible but can open up many other interest. I have been tutoring in Latin since I was 16, starting with primary school level children and more recently during my degree, tutoring A-Level and GCSE students. I have also started to tutor pupils in essay-writing skills and english literature at GCSE level. While GCSE essays and literature exams often seem daunting, by providing pupils with confidence and support to develop their writing style, their marks will start to quickly improve.
Beyond essay-based subjects, I am also very comfortable tutoring maths, having thoroughly enjoyed this subject at A-level.
