About Joanna
I am a specialist Mathematics tutor with 6 years of experience across GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate teaching. I support students in all core areas including algebra, calculus, geometry, statistics, mechanics, discrete maths, and proof. My background combines academic study with 6 years of one-to-one teaching, so I understand both curriculum demands and how maths is used at higher levels.
During my 6 years of tutoring I’ve developed structured programmes for each stage. GCSE students master key methods, reasoning, and problem-solving for grades 7 to 9. A-Level students receive targeted support with Pure and Applied content, including modelling, exam strategy, and Further Maths topics. University students get help with rigorous definitions, theorem application, and mathematical writing for assignments.
Lessons blend concise theory with intensive practice. I emphasise logical structure, precise notation, and checking strategies that prevent lost marks. We use your syllabus, past papers, and extension problems to build fluency and depth. My aim is to make you an independent thinker who can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. Think of our lessons as maths coaching, not just tutoring. We’ll work through your syllabus whether it’s GCSE foundation or higher, A-Level Further Maths, or University modules in analysis, statistics, or linear algebra. My focus is teaching you how to think through unfamiliar problems so exams feel less intimidating.
I explain the “why” behind each rule. Why does completing the square work? Why do we differentiate that way? Why does that proof hold? Once the logic is clear, the memory follows. We’ll solve problems together on a shared whiteboard, talk through your approach, and refine it until it’s clean and efficient. Expect plenty of practice with multi-step questions and applied contexts.
For GCSE, we target reasoning and problem-solving marks with structured practice. A-Level students learn to link topics, handle proof, and manage time in long questions. At university, we work on mathematical writing, definitions, and breaking theorems into usable ideas for assignments.
I share strategies for checking work, avoiding algebra slips, and reading questions carefully. We can use your school material, university notes, or problems you find tough. Between lessons I’ll set focused tasks and review your solutions. The goal is simple: make you an independent mathematician who can approach any question with a plan. Relaxed, supportive, and always about progress you can feel.
