About Mia
My name is Mia. I graduated BA English from a Russell Group university, and am currently studying to be a lawyer. I achieved 7 and 8 at GCSE English and A* at A Level in both language and literature.
My teaching practice is on a few philosophies: honesty, directness, and confidence. Might sound contradictory! But that basically means: You get told, with no fuss, what's going well, what needs working on, and that you're capable.
I choose to tutor in my spare time alongside my own studies because it exercises what I do best: sitting with someone who is struggling to understand a concept or problem, deconstructing it for them, and providing them with the tools and confidence to understand and solve the problem.
It is also a privilege to be a part of someone's learning journey!

I adapt my tutoring practice to individual needs and learning requirements. This means no stopping off at generalised advice. A student struggling with exam practice won't be given terminology that won't get them any further to better grades.
I work with students over the course of weekly sessions to deconstruct exam questions and practice, to understand the following:
What does English actually demand?
What makes a good English answer?
What does the text communicate, and how do we synthesise this?
I work to build exam-hall ready confidence, discipline, and routine for revision that is balanced with school and other priorities.
I am fully qualified and certified in child safeguarding. I have a long thread of experience in 1:1 tutoring, larger subject group coaching, student cohort management, and learning differences, spanning across years.
I can provide tutoring and coaching to students from KS3 to their A-Levels.
