I have recently graduated from a Master’s in Comparative Literature from Goldsmiths, University of London, having previously completed a Bachelor’s in English and Related Literature from the University of York.
I have several years experience tutoring and proofreading, and have been working with students at various academic levels, from GCSE to Masters, and in a variety of subject areas (but predominantly English Literature). For higher level students, my work mainly entails proofreading essays; and for GCSE and A Level, I teach exam preparation and basic study skills.
I like to work with my students and tailor our sessions to meet their particular needs, its a very co-operative teaching approach and I like to incorporate a range of learning techniques in order to find the best fit for each student. I try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible, finding creative solutions to problems and taking my students' interests into consideration.
I can help with: literacy, exam preparation, essay work, seminar based discussions, university application advice, creative writing, reading, and editing and evaluating work.
I have helped my students successfully complete their GCSEs and A levels with top results, and helped with numerous applications to top universities. Several of my students have achieved high 2.1s and firsts on their essays and dissertations at undergraduate and Master's level, due to my advice, tutoring support and proofreading.
My students have greatly varied in abilities, and I have helped them aim for their own personal targets, whether that is passing at a C level, or trying to make the difference between Bs and A*s.

My role is to assist with the transition between offices and to support the new team, I was brought in to amend mistakes made on the online CET training system (run as part of Optician), which requires me to input names and identity numbers, and take note of and correct any errors. This requires basic IT and Excel spreadsheet knowledge, as well as adequate literacy skills.

I presented a paper at a symposium on Laura Mulvey: “Visual Pleasure: Acts of Looking in Narrative Culture” organised by Goldsmiths. The title of the paper was “Textual Pleasure: seductive narratives and female desire in the postmodern text”. There is also some publication interest from University Cambridge Press.

To perform opening and closing checks, manage a team of kitchen assistants and waitressing staff, keep the kitchen clean and orderly, make informed decisions about the quality of the food being served and use effective problem solving methods when faced with challenges. My role in the kitchen was to prepare and serve delicious food with speed and efficiency, plan meals and specials for the day, cope under pressure and to apply effective problem solving techniques if problems occur.
Volunteer in “Bees n’ Beans” project, University of Sussex Goulson Lab; London — 2015-2016 (ongoing)
A project that aims to look at pollinator populations across the UK. As a volunteer I’m expected to grow three broad bean plants and two radish plants, to perform a simple pollination experiment and to record data. The data collected will allow the Sussex Goulson Lab to compare yields of beans from across the country to identify the number of bees across the UK and the success of their pollination habits.

To organise termly exhibitions, correspond with other societies, advertise the exhibition which involved making posters, using social forums, sending emails and speaking on the radio, scout out and book spaces that meet the necessary requirements, collect and select art work, host the event and tidy up afterwards.

Role with York Museum Trust
I was involved with the writing and performance of a live action production in the historical heart of York to a large audience of tourists and locals. I worked with the York Museum Trust to organise a storytelling festival to encourage young people to visit the York Museum and nurture a love for history. In addition to performing I was also involved in the organisation, advertisement, costume design and worked along side a number of local schools and businesses.
Volunteer, SCOOP; York — 2012-2014
SCOOP (York Student Co-op) is a non-profit student co-operative set up by the University of York to sell locally and ethically sourced foods to the student body and local community. My volunteer role required me to take regular shifts setting up and running the shop, restocking the shop, and communicating with our clients so that the business ran successfully. The success of SCOOP at the university enabled us to inform others about the damaging effects of food distribution and large scale non-organic industrial farming.
