About Lucy
My love of the English language almost exceeds my love of cake! Yet I appreciate that this isn't the story for so many. Just as there are multiple ways to interpret a text, there are so many avenues for developing an appreciation of English.
Well-written, read and spoken English is a portal to so many opportunities for young people. After some time away from Academia and now that my own children are embarking on their secondary-level education, I am keen to return to my passion and share my knowledge and enthusiasm for this lifeskill with others.
I have a First Class BA Honours degree in English and a Masters with Distinction in Literature, Culture and Modernity.

My lessons are aimed at GCSE and A-Level students studying English Language and/or English Literature who would like additional support with essay writing, reading comprehension and textual analysis.
I am equally happy to work with students who are struggling with English and looking to build their confidence and those already achieving highly who would like to develop a more sophisticated analysis and writing style. My lessons are individually tailored to every student I teach and the areas in which they would most like to improve.
I offer 60-minute lessons that can focus on a specific task such as planning for and writing an assignment or studying for a set exam text. Otherwise, I take a broader approach that works to develop close reading and analytical skills through the guided exploration of unseen texts, practice in building an argument and working through past exam papers set around the relevant exam boards assessment objectives.
I have both a First Class Honours degree in English and a Masters degree with Distinction in Literature, Culture and Modernity with a specialism in the analysis of modern poetry.
