Expect a hot drink, a relaxed atmosphere and a well-focused session. I understand that each subject and student will benefit from different approaches, so the rest will depend on you and what you're after. Below is an outline for how an essay-based session might proceed.
I find that essays are easiest to handle when they are approached from the top down. This means beginning with the question, establishing a clear answer, identifying the information that must be covered in order for you to give this answer, and devising a structure to help you convey this in an accessible manner. Having gone through this process together, I find it useful to fill out the outline gradually until we have the framework for a whole draft. From here we can begin running through the whole essay (I've found that doing so out loud can be particularly helpful), identifying bits where focus or clarity is lost and addressing these problems as we go.
Lastly, I should add that I am happy to assist in essay writing online - sometimes all you need is some good proofing and feedback to get you going in the right direction!
I recently graduated with an award-winning first class MA in philosophy from the University of Edinburgh and I am now pursuing a cognitive science MSC.
I love teaching. I've done it casually and professionally, for people in primary school right through to university. My most recent experience comes from the four months full time work in which I taught Literature A-Levels in Seoul to a cohort of 50 students. But with my seven prior years of tutoring experience I've also helped students learn everything from calculus through to metaethics.

Ben and I were peers at university. When it came to unpacking ideas and illuminating approaches to them, he was incredibly helpful, and was able to talk enthusiastically about the fine details of advanced ideas while tying them back to a central premise. Particularly in response to working through my own essays, Ben gave incredibly detailed feedback that proved invaluable in developing my ideas, and likely pushed my work up by a grade boundary or two. He is also by nature a warm and thoughtful person, who instinctively took time and care when offering help or feedback.
Ben is a lovely, insightful tutor! He proofread and edited my 4th year Philosophy and Psychology essays with a really great eye for detail, style, and most of all, coherence and argumentation. He approached this with great sensitivity and kindness when offering comments, feedback and suggestions in a way that way really clear and easy to understand. I believe his help allowed me to achieve even higher marks than I have previously and he would be the first person I'd turn to if I was even in need of tutoring help again.
