About Matthew

A Lifelong Musical Journey Shared With You:

As a lifelong appreciator, performer, and composer of acoustic folk song, I am excited to return to my roots in classical guitar and share my deep love for music with beginners looking to explore this beautiful instrument.

For the past four years, I have run a weekly, open-ability, in-person music group. Through this, I have used song as a vehicle to help people meet, build community, and engage in meaningful musical discussions.

I bring this exact same collaborative, welcoming, and community-minded energy to my online guitar studio.

A Unique Background in Art, Science, and Mindset:

My background blends creativity, science, and human behavior. I am a qualified winemaker, and studied minors in both Classical Guitar and Psychology at the University of Western Australia (UWA).

How does this unique combination help you as a student? The Classical Foundation: My formal training at UWA ensures you will learn correct posture, fingerstyle technique, and foundational reading skills right from the start. The Psychology Insight: Learning an instrument as an adult requires patience and the right mindset. My understanding of psychology helps me tailor my teaching to how you learn best, helping you overcome frustration and build confidence.

The Creative Passion: My years of folk composing mean I focus on making music expressive and deeply enjoyable, not just a series of dry exercises.

I look forward to guiding you as you begin your own wonderful adventure into learning the classical guitar!

Unlock Your Musical Potential: Tailored Classical Guitar Lessons for Adults

Hello! I am a professional guitarist and dedicated educator and Music Facilitator. I specialize in working with adult students—from absolute beginners picking up the instrument for the first time, to intermediate players looking to refine their tone, posture, and interpretation.

Learning the classical guitar as an adult is a uniquely rewarding journey. Whether your goal is to master timeless pieces by Tarrega, Sor, and Bach, or simply to find a fulfilling, creative escape from your daily routine, my lessons are entirely customized to your pace, lifestyle, and musical goals. In our one-on-one online studio, within the structure of the Aaron Shearer method, we will focus on:

Ergonomics & Posture: Developing a relaxed, tension-free playing position to ensure comfort and prevent injury.Tone Production: Mastering right-hand technique to draw a warm, resonant, and beautiful sound from your guitar.

Sight-Reading & Music Theory: Demystifying the fretboard and reading notation cleanly, broken down into simple, logical steps.

Repertoire Mastery: Learning the pieces you love, step-by-step, with actionable practice strategies you can fit into a busy adult schedule.

I provide a highly supportive, patient, and pressure-free environment.

You don't need prior musical background to start—just a desire to learn!
