About Hamdy
Hi, I’m Hamdy. I am a PhD-qualified Mechanical Engineer and experienced educator with more than twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience across high school, undergraduate and postgraduate education, including more than ten years teaching engineering students at the University of Sydney. I am currently working as a high school Mathematics teacher at a highly regarded independent school in Western Sydney.
I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics to students at different levels, from students strengthening their foundations to those studying senior high school Mathematics, university Mathematics and Calculus. I have worked with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and have provided private tutoring to students from universities including the University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Western Sydney University and Macquarie University.
My approach to Mathematics tutoring is based on understanding rather than memorisation. I focus on helping students understand why a mathematical method works, how different concepts are connected and how to apply those concepts to unfamiliar problems. I explain difficult ideas clearly, work through examples step by step and adapt the pace and level of explanation to each student's needs.
Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an assessment or examination, trying to strengthen gaps in your mathematical foundations, or aiming to achieve a higher level of performance, I tailor my lessons to your individual goals. I encourage students to ask questions, think critically and gradually develop the confidence to solve problems independently.
Over more than two decades, I have helped hundreds of students overcome subjects they initially found challenging and develop greater confidence in their mathematical abilities. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching for me is seeing a student move from feeling that a mathematical concept is difficult or confusing to being able to understand it and apply it confidently.

My Mathematics lessons are tailored to each student's current level, areas of difficulty and academic goals. I begin by identifying the topics or concepts that the student finds challenging and then structure the lesson around those specific needs.
I focus on developing genuine mathematical understanding rather than memorising formulas or following procedures without understanding them. I explain the reasoning behind mathematical methods, show how different concepts are connected and then work through examples and problems step by step.
Depending on the student's needs, lessons can cover foundational Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, senior high school Mathematics, Maths Methods or university-level Mathematics. I can also help students prepare for assignments, tests, examinations and other assessments.
I encourage students to ask questions and explain their reasoning, because this helps identify gaps in understanding and develops stronger problem-solving skills. I adapt the pace and level of explanation throughout the lesson and provide additional examples whenever a concept needs further clarification.
My goal is not simply to help a student complete a particular exercise or prepare for one examination. I want students to understand the Mathematics well enough to approach unfamiliar problems independently and with confidence.
