About Leah

Hello,

My name is Leah, I'm currently studying Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan. I have tutored high school kids for many years now, in a variety of subjects (including math, science, history, reading, Spanish, and social studies). I love kids, and have also worked as a nanny for many years, with kids aged 4 months to 16 years. I volunteered as a teacher's assistant at a local day care, and have worked at a summer camp. I have also worked with many kids who have special needs. During the COVID-19 crisis I am available to work over facetime, houseparty, microsoft teams, google hangouts, or zoom.

I absolutely love helping people of all ages learn! There is nothing quite like watching someone really understand something for the first time. :)

I began tutoring in high school as a part of the National Honor Society, which required us to do 10 hours per semester. I immediately fell in love with it and began often doing closer to 10 hours per week. When I began college I became much busier, but still had a few students occasionally.

I graduated high school with honors, and will begin my junior year of my undergraduate civil engineering degree in the fall.

About the lesson

I like to take the first session to figure out what the student is struggling with and what their goals are, and come up with a plan for achieving those goals. I do not charge for the first visit. :)

I have worked with many different types of students in the past, including preschoolers (reading and communication), high schoolers (Spanish, math, reading, history, science, social studies), and special needs students. I am more than happy to work with anyone who wants to learn!

I would advise trying a few tutors and find someone you like! Learning is much easier if you like the people you're doing it with and can have fun with it!

Normally I would charge a set rate depending on material covered and the learning plan individual to each student, but I am very aware that the COVID-19 crisis is causing financial strain for many people, and therefore the price is very negotiable.
