I am a qualified university lecturer who has specialised in both art making and art history/theory. I have taught across disciplines from sociology, education, philosophy, musicology to gender studies mainly in the arts and the humanities. It is more than a profession as that is where my interest and passion lie. I have worked as a practising artist, exhibited in several parts of the world, as well as being a researcher and classroom teacher. This allows me insight into the line of work that students in the arts are preparing for. I have supervised students at M/A level who have graduated cum laude and gone on to become established art practitioners with a solid insight into contemporary theory. I am driven by intellectual growth in the artists (students) and how the power of thinking critically and creatively can inform and open consciousness to deeper meaning and insight grasping the profound despite existing in what seems like a superficial and fast paced society covered in glossy veneers and filters, promising instant gratification. With that said, contemporary culture and the energy of youth culture inspires my work. I have had the privilege to work internationally and continue to mentor some of my former students who have gone on to prestigious Universities such as La Sorbonne. My academic skills are multidisciplinary. I am deeply committed and engaged with the curriculum to keep pace with contemporary global events in the art world, and for example how today's technology excavates new discoveries that change and challenge the way we understand the world and, more especially, how we navigate the world of representation. I am dedicated to hone the development of each individual's personal and professional progress and support cultivating their individual expression by identifying the strength of each. I hold a MS (FA), cum laude, in multimedia and in painting. I have taught courses that span basic Western Art History, Modernism, Deconstruction, Post-modernism, Art and Gender, Art and feminism, Art and the Gaze, African Art, Decolonial Aesthetics, Performance Art, Art and Multimedia.
