About Jake

Hello! Nice to meet you. I'm an economist in the Civil Service and a former economics/mathematics student at Georgetown University. I believe very strongly that math doesn't need to be confusing; when it's explained properly, it makes perfect sense! When teaching, I try as hard as possible to explain concepts using common sense and logic-- so you'll understand not only how to use various methods, but also why they work. One of the reasons I'm so passionate about teaching is that I've learned from the occasional bad teacher myself, and I know how difficult even the simplest things can be to learn when they're explained poorly.

For a bit about me outside of work: I'm a singer-songwriter and cyclist, and I love hiking and canoeing. I look forward to meeting you!

Hello! My name is Jake, and I specialize in teaching mathematics for all ages, from basic algebra and geometry through to calculus and proofs. I believe my greatest strength as a tutor is the ability to explain complicated ideas in ways that are logical easy to understand; learning math should be about more than just getting the right answer-- it should be about understanding why it works! I am an economist by trade, so I use statistics on a daily basis, but I focused in school on calculus, algebra, and proofs. My lessons are customizable in length, but are typically around 30 minutes. I'm based in London at the moment, so am available for in-person lessons if you're here as well!
