About Rachel
I'm a graduate pre-medical biology student who will be starting medical school this August. With a strong academic background in the life sciences and experience as a peer tutor, I’m passionate about helping students build confidence and mastery in biology and related subjects. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I developed a deep understanding of complex scientific topics and discovered a love for teaching through tutoring my peers. I’ve worked with students at various academic levels and understand the challenges that come with rigorous coursework. As a tutor, I take a personalized, student-centered approach that focuses on building a strong conceptual foundation while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I aim to create an encouraging and collaborative learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with the material.
I begin by assessing each student’s current understanding and learning style. From there, I tailor my explanations using visual aids, analogies, and interactive questioning to reinforce complex concepts. I emphasize active learning, encouraging students to explain topics back to me to ensure comprehension. I also incorporate spaced repetition and practice questions to enhance retention and exam readiness.
Each session begins with a brief review of previous material or assignments, followed by a targeted lesson on a specific topic. I break the topic down into manageable sections, using examples and practice problems to reinforce understanding. Toward the end of the session, we summarize key takeaways and identify areas for continued focus. I often provide additional resources or practice materials for continued learning between sessions.
