History and Literature Graduate offering tutoring in Literature, History and Philosophy & Ethics in Brighton

Methodology

I consider it of paramount importance to avoid being didactic in my lessons. The key to learning, in my experience, has always been to make it as interactive and independent thinking as possible. For example, if I was teaching a text such as a novel, I would first ask my pupil what they know about the novel - its context; its cultural and historical impact; its form; its characters etc before informing them of anything else. This is crucial because it immediately engages the pupil and makes them aware that they will have to do the thinking from the start, that they won't just be spoken at, which is an important distinction to make early on.

Background

I am a 23-year-old graduate living and working in Brighton. I recently graduated with 1st Class Honours in History and Literature from the University of Brighton. I specialise in Literature, History and Philosophy & Ethics and am keen to tutor students in any of my given topics.

Personal

I am a hard-working, dedicated individual who manages time well. I am passionate about music, having written and performed in a band for over five years, playing more than fifty live shows all around the UK. I have always been engaged by writing, both creatively and in a journalistic fashion, as a form of expression. Sport and exercise have always been important to me, having completed a half marathon this year for Chestnut Tree House charity, as well as playing in sports teams throughout my life – which instils a sense of teamwork and competitive comradeship which are, I believe, invaluable traits in the workplace as well.
