About Louis
I am a first-year Mechanical Engineer at Imperial College London.
At A-level, I took Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I also did Design & Technology to AS-Level, where I used a lot of the maths we were taught to design geometric tables and lighting.
I took a gap year out to intern as a software developer and become a pilot - both which used a lot of the concepts I learnt in Sixth Form.
In my first year, I spent a lot of time explaining Mechanics, Maths and Computing to friends on my course, and with my own projects I like to try to explain how it works to people with varying backgrounds in mathematic and physics.

When teaching, I like to re-explain any unintuitive concepts to the student in a way that creates a connection to the real world.
This is because mathematics is ultimately very logical, but it is these 'awkward' concepts make it sometimes feel like maths works almost a random and causes people to lose confidence.
Sometimes, one real-world example does not work for somebody, and so I like to try find the one example that does relates to the student - based on what their hobbies are and what they understand in maths so far.
Once the concept is more intuitive, I like to do examples and get the student to make the steps on their own a few times, helping them wherever they get lost. A key part of going through the examples is that I write them down clearly myself so they can refer to the examples later.
