Hi! I’m Varun, a sophomore at John P. Stevens High School. I tutor Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, breaking concepts into simple, clear steps so math feels less overwhelming. My teaching methodology focuses on concept clarity first, ensuring students understand why mathematical rules work before practicing problem sets. I use multiple representations including graphs, tables, equations, and word problems to connect ideas, while building learning step-by-step from simple cases to complex applications. Students explain their steps out loud to deepen retention, and we slow down to unpack errors as valuable feedback to address root misunderstandings.
A standard sixty-minute lesson begins with a five-minute warm-up on prior material to activate knowledge, followed by ten minutes of clear instruction with a simple worked example. The next twenty minutes are dedicated to guided practice with increasing difficulty and reasoning questions, leading into fifteen minutes of independent problem-solving with active observation and feedback. The lesson wraps up with a five-minute review of key takeaways and common pitfalls, followed by a final five minutes to assign targeted homework and optional challenge problems.
What sets my approach apart is a patient, methodical style that never skips steps, paired with flexible explanations that adapt instantly if a concept does not click. Every lesson concludes with a problem the student can solve independently to build lasting confidence, alongside connections to real-world applications in finance, science, and design. These lessons are designed for middle schoolers needing pre-algebra readiness, high school students in Algebra 1 through Calculus, test prep students preparing for the SAT or ACT, and anyone looking to either rebuild foundational skills or accelerate ahead of school pacing.
