I have several years of experiences with students between the ages of 7 and 18 who have faced challenges within the school system or are no longer in formal education for a variety of reasons, including behaviour issues, special educational needs, health problems, anxiety etc. My goal is always to support the student in engaging and progressing within an understanding learning environment with a structure suited to them, and appropriate to their abilities. I am familiar with creating a unique sessison structures and lesson plans for students with ADHD, ADD or other neurodiversities that make traditional classroom settings hostile and challenging to navigate. I also have extensive experience in supporting students with English as a second language, including the anxiety and feelings of insecurity this creates in the British school system. I have been pleased to see students who had previously been expelled or forced to withdraw from school gain admission to university or other higher education, with impressive grades after long-term work with me.
I am an academic tutor, specialising in SEN, particularly ADHD and ADD, who is passionate about making English language and literature accessible for a students who may find the subject challenging or inaccessible. I have worked as a tutor for the last five years, as well as creating work as a playwright, published author and theatre reviewer. I hold a First Class degree in English Literature and Drama (BA) from Russell Group university Queen Mary, University of London and plan to undertake an MA in Text and Performance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the upcoming year.
I charged £5 for 1.5 hours or more travel time.
I invoice at the start of each month and refund cancelled or missed lessons at the start of the next month.
I have a 48 hour cancellation policy meaning if a lesson is cancelled on the day or day before it will still be charged.
I am an outgoing and approachable person who is able to engage confidently and effectively with people from a range of backgrounds and experiences. I am passionate about inspiring, learning and sharing knowledge. My ongoing work as an SEN tutor not only means I am required to be a clear and confident communicator, but also demands flexibility and creativity in order to adapt to a diverse range of needs. I am particularly confident in challenging interactions that require initiative, self-organisation and patience. As a creative individual with a background in theatre, I utilise this skills within lessons to encourage an engaging, dynamic and positive experience for students. I have also volunteered with mental health organisations and health advocacy programmes, and have a particular interest in mentoring and supporting young people with anxiety, depression or other concerns that may affect their progress in education.
