About Luke

Hi, I’m Luke, a London-based pianist, composer, and producer.

I studied classical piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where I earned my Bachelor of Music on scholarship. I then stayed on as a Junior Artist Fellow, specialising in jazz composition. Moving between the classical and jazz worlds shaped how I teach: I want students to have solid technique and a strong ear, and to feel free to make the music their own.

As a session pianist, I’ve recorded at some of London’s most famous studios, including Abbey Road and RAK, and worked with artists and ensembles including Travis, Rick Wakeman, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and London Sinfonia. Working at that level taught me how to listen closely, adapt quickly, and serve the music, all skills I bring into every lesson.

I’m also an established composer. I began writing for theatre at Guildhall, continued with several London theatre companies, and have since written music for film and commercials, including work for Polaroid. As an experienced producer, I’m comfortable in a DAW, recording, and mixing, so I can help you play the piano and also write, arrange, and produce your own music.

I’ve been teaching for 8 years, and I enjoy it as much as anything else I do. My approach is relaxed and goal-driven. I didn’t grow up in a musical family. I found my own way into music, and I know how it feels to start from scratch, so I make sure every student, whether a nervous beginner or an advanced player preparing for an audition, leaves each lesson having made real progress.

If you’re curious about lessons, I’d love to hear what you want to achieve. Get in touch to book a trial lesson.

1. Piano Lessons

Beginners (kids and adults): Build solid foundations: posture, technique, reading music, and playing songs you actually enjoy.

Intermediate to advanced: Develop technique, repertoire, interpretation, and musicality, whether classical, jazz, pop, or contemporary.

Grades and auditions: Structured preparation for ABRSM and Trinity exams, school auditions, and music college or university applications.

2. Session Piano and Contemporary Skills

Learn the skills working musicians use: playing by ear, reading chord charts, accompanying singers, improvising, and getting studio-ready. This is ideal for gigging players and anyone who wants to play with other musicians.

3. Composition and Songwriting

Write your own music for songs, film, theatre, or your own projects. We’ll cover melody, harmony, structure, arranging, and developing your own style. This also suits students preparing a composition portfolio.

4. Music Production, DAWs and Mixing

Turn your ideas into finished tracks. I’ll teach you recording, arranging, mixing, and workflow in your DAW of choice (Logic, Ableton, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc.), with practical guidance from professional studio experience.
