Find Classics tuition near me in Birmingham

Classics is a rich subject that explores the languages, literature, history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.

• Latin and Greek: reading original texts and learning the grammar that underpins them.
• Set texts: studying works such as the Aeneid, the Odyssey, Greek tragedies and Roman histories.
• Greek and Roman history: democracy in Athens, the Roman Republic, the Empire and beyond.
• Mythology and thought: gods, heroes, philosophical schools and the visual culture that brought them to life.

A private tutor helps you connect these strands and build genuine confidence in translation and essay writing.

Classics tutors in Birmingham typically charge £20/h per hour.

Pricing can vary based on:

• The level taught: secondary school, sixth form or university preparation.
• The teacher's qualifications and track record with exam boards such as OCR or Eduqas.
• The number of hours booked across the term.
• Where lessons take place, with online tuition usually offering better value.

Comparing several profiles helps you find the best balance of expertise and price.

Achieving a grade 9 in GCSE Classics requires solid revision habits, strong exam technique and a genuine engagement with the texts.

• Master the prescribed material: each exam board lists specific texts and topics — make sure nothing on that list is unfamiliar.
• Use past exam questions from your specification (OCR, Eduqas) to learn how examiners phrase prompts.
• Develop strong written answers with a clear thesis, named examples from the sources and explicit analysis.
• Embed evidence from the set material in every paragraph to lift your answers into the top band.

A specialist Classics tutor can pinpoint exactly where you are losing marks and help you push from a 7 or 8 up to a 9.
