FAQ's
📝 What are the main categories of creative writing?
Creative writing covers a wide range of genres and forms, each with its own techniques and conventions.
Here are the main types you'll encounter in most creative writing courses:
- Fiction: novels, novellas and short stories built around imagined characters and plots.
- Poetry: writing shaped by line breaks, rhythm and figurative language.
- Narrative non-fiction: memoirs, personal essays and travel writing told with literary craft.
- Scriptwriting: writing for stage, screen, radio or podcast formats.
- Hybrid and short forms: flash fiction, song lyrics, journals and experimental writing.
A qualified creative writing tutor can help you discover which form best suits your voice and guide you through your first pieces.

📖 Where do I begin if I want to learn creative writing?
Starting creative writing can feel daunting, but a few simple habits help you build confidence quickly.
Here are practical steps to take from day one:
- Read widely: explore novels, short stories and poetry across genres to absorb how authors craft their work.
- Write regularly: consistency matters more than length — a small habit yields big results over time.
- Try writing exercises: photo prompts, first-line challenges and timed sprints unlock ideas when you feel stuck.
- Edit and revise: leave a draft for a day, then return to refine flow, clarity and word choice.
An experienced creative writing teacher tailors exercises to your interests and helps you build a portfolio step by step.
