Why Learn More About Nutrition

"The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition." -Thomas Edison

Swiss cheese. German chocolate. English fish and chips. American hamburgers. Indonesian satay skewers. Japanese ramen. We could go on and on listing more delicious dishes from around the world because not only is food a passion of mine but the overall variety is mindboggling. We are truly blessed with so many food choices that highlight different ingredients from fresh produce to fish and savoury sauces to meaty delights. And while some of us love to eat more than others, it's something that we all do daily to keep living and thriving.

A passion for food and the importance of nourishing our bodies is so strong in some that they decide to complete training to become a registered dietitian or nutritionist. Nutritionists have loads of work today since never before have subjects of fitness, food, and diets been talked about so openly. The obsession of looking and feeling good is more prevalent amongst millennials than any other previous generation. Nutrition trends such as which foods can make our muscles more defined and prominent, which diets are the best for those who suffer from skin blemishes, and, hands down the most popular, what does one need to eat to lose weight and feel good all the time, are all subjects that nutritionists tend to deal with daily. Also, today's generation was not built as well as the last, and we do not have the same endurance and stamina that made our ancestors iron machines. Hence, the growing need to learn more about nutrition and the foods and diets that combat some of the world's most common health issues such as obesity, diabetes, hypoglycemia and cardiovascular problems.

Going back to the quote mentioned above, the foods we ingest can prevent serious diseases and be used as medicine if they are implemented when young. All in all, nutrition is a fascinating topic that has so many distinct layers and is valid for special attention in today's ailing world. Even if you don't decide to create a career as a nutritionist, knowing more about foods and diets can help you and your family to stay healthy. And who doesn't want to be around to spend more time with their loved ones?

The Rise of Nutrition in the 21st Century

While the importance of staying healthy by eating right and exercising has been repeated for decades by doctors and health professionals, the health & wellness industry has dramatically increased in the 21st Century and risen to be worth a whopping 4.2 trillion US dollars; that's a massive chunk of change! But why? Well, the variety of contributing factors are endless, but the primary reason that can be pinpointed is social media. With countless gorgeous and well-toned influencers promoting an attractive lifestyle that involves going to the gym and eating well, it is no surprise that teenagers and young adults want to seek health advice. Also, to be someone that is viewed as relevant, exciting, and a potential date, 20 somethings from across the globe begin to believe that have a six-pack and a thigh gap are necessary; inner beauty is not as valued as it once was! The United Kingdom or Bristol is not exempt to these trends. Hence, more than any other age group in history, millennials are referred to as "the wellness generation" and seek the assistance of personal trainers, dietitians, and nutritions on the regular.

It is no surprise that nutritionists are more in demand than ever before and I'm sure that if you asked a group of baby-boomers compared to millennials what a "nutritionist" does, the millennials would have more to say. It's not ageism; it's just the cold hard facts that exercise and nutrition are more important in 2020 than they were in 1975. But where does one find a nutritionist or study nutrition? If you keep reading, you'll find out!
