Teaching to GCSE students I would take a straight forward approach. A lot of GCSE students find Maths overwhelming and hard to get to grips with the basics. My teaching method is that I will initially assess where the student needs most work ensuring a solid understanding of the theory in this area and then focusing on exam techniques and questions.
I can give lessons up to GCSE level, but will probably be best up to year 9. I think that if possible the content you are trying to learn needs to be linked to something that you find interesting, whether it is related very closely to the topic you are studying or just very vaguely.
