I approach each topic at its core meaning and how it is derived from first principles as i strongly believe the best way to understand any topic is to understand where it came from and why it is done in a particular way. Grasping the fundamentals of any topic is honestly the best way to improve your mathematic ability and exam results overall.
Public Health Doctor | Oxbridge Graduate | Over 10 years teaching experience | Specialist marker for Edexcel - Which subject(s) do you teach? 11+ 13+ Common Entrance Mathematics (KS2, KS3 & GCSE) English (KS2 and KS3) Sciences (KS2, KS3 and GCSEs) Economics (GCSE & A-level) Business Studies (GCSE & A-level) Accounting (GCSE & A-level) A-level Biology.
I am currently working in a secondary school in Buckinghamshire teaching maths from year 7 to ‘A’ level, where I hold the position of examinations officer. I graduated from Reading University with an MSc degree in Network centred Computing and from Cardiff University with a BSc in Physics. I started teaching after completing my PGCE at the University of Swansea.
I teach online via Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Appear.in, Facebook Video Chat, interactive whiteboards, attachments (PDF, Word, Excel), and Slack, a proprietary screen sharing and remote desktop program. I teach students kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as college students and business professionals. I am patient, creative and friendly.
I base my classes on the knowledge and the grade which my students require. I first work on basic skills, then try to concentrate on the key points of the book. My experience has shown me that working on past papers is a very effective method so I put emphasis on past papers and go through each question individually and try to understand it fully then link the answer to our learning objective.
I follow very smooth and minute entry into each topic. The topics in physics are completely explained when they are discussed through numerical examples which I believe strongly binds the theory of subject with thought processes of the minds of the learners.
I base my classes on two ideas - if a student has a pressing concern on something specific I am open to teaching something off the script, or if a student prefers a topic by topic run through of the syllabus with recaps as we progress.
Firstly I will identify the student's weaknesses and work on tackling them. Then we will move onto making sure the knowledge of all topics is to a good enough standard. Regular testing is also an important aspect of my methods.
I cover the teaching syllabus with the students but specifically focusing on areas they struggle with. I give detailed feedback after each session and provide the students with homework to complete that summarises the sessions work and then go over any mistakes.
My teaching method is to pay as little attention as possible to the subjects where students feel comfortable and spending more time on tricky topics. I also like to practice as many exam questions as possible to create confidence in the student for when they come to the real exam.
My teaching method is very laid back with no set amount of time for each topic.
A student centred approach to learning where me and the one being taught have equal roles in learning.
