I'm a pianist with the BMus (Hons) degree and having more than 5 years experience in teaching piano and music theory children and adults. I prepare for ABRSM grade exams as well.
As a musician, I am an Organist, a Pianist, and a Guitarist. I'm currently giving Piano lessons to a friend of mine who is paying 30 pounds per hour. I also taught a neighbour how to play the Guitar for free in exchange that she did something that would benefit me as well. As I teach these people, I don't just want them to play an instrument.
Depending on the student I would choose songs most suited to develop their skills and general dexterity on the piano, as this is the way I was always taught successfully.
Every time someone says they will teach you music, they are full of it. The best way to learn music is on your own, but since you can't I will guide, but mainly motivate you into doing so. The only way to truly excel in what you're passionate about is by putting in the effort yourself, but not everyone has the fanaticism I had when I learnt music.
Base my teaching on having fun learning the basics then applying these to build on piano and theory skills in a fun interactive way. Using books such as Johnson thomsons beginners and key acronyms to read music this will encourage pupils to engage.
