About Mark
One of my favorite things about tutoring is the moment when I see something click and make sense. It is really important to me that the folks I work worth succeed in the subject we are working on. I think I have developed quite a bit of skills working with students through tutoring fellow students in college and also I was recently a TA in graduate school. I have taken a lot of college level chemistry courses and a few calculus courses. Along with that I have taken a lot of soil science courses which relates to environmental science.
I like to approach issues in a level headed way and just try to keep things calm if stuff starts to get stressful. There are several environments I have tutored in including in person and virtual one-on-one sessions, group sessions, and drop-in sessions.
I'm currently transitioning away from graduate school and am looking to do other work at the current moment. I live with my wonderful partner with our cat and rabbit.

I typically approach it in a couple of ways. Preferably either way the learner at least comes prepared and ready to work and it would also be beneficial for me to know that topics we should be working on.
1) The learner comes with specific questions that we can discuss together and work on a practice problem related to the topic. If doing it in person I usually give them some time to work on the problem and discuss questions as they arise. I try my best to ask them questions to guide them to the answer and not hand it to them.
2) If there are more conceptual issue I may do a miniature lecture and or re-introduction of the topic and then have an activity setup for use to work through.
Generally I try not to just share answers with them. I like to see at least an attempt made so we can figure out where the misunderstanding is. Also I think that I am really good at working on the fly with questions that arise. If we are working virtually I will share a virtual whiteboard (on Canva or Miro) we can both write on and then they can also save it as a PDF to walkaway from the lesson with it. In person we would probably do work on paper, I also have a small whiteboard that can be used.

Mark was both technically fantastic and amazingly passionate about teaching! I'd recommend Mark as a tutor to anyone who wants to learn! Mark has a ton of experience and helps to make studying enjoyable!
Mark was my tutor for a soils class at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Without the guidance from Mark, I believe many students in that class would have struggled. Mark would use his own notes from the class as well as outside knowledge he learned about the particular soil we were studying, then he would educate us and remind us about some of the facts. He is a natural at teaching. He’s excited when others learn and when he can also learn from students. We would have discussions about the homework and he would make kahoots and jeopardy games to make it fun. He would also recognize that some students learn faster than others, so he was excellent at keeping everyone on the same page and noticing if a student was falling behind in a group setting. Mark also is great at explaining material in different ways based on learning styles. Mark is an awesome teacher and most material he receives for a class he can morph that into something great to teach students.
Mark was my tutor for a soils class I took in college. He brings an energizing, passionate attitude when engaging his students. Mark speaks very clearly, comes with patience, and confidence in his teaching. He served as a great resource to understanding the course material!
