About Hannah
Hi! My name is Hannah, and I'm a college student working towards degrees in math and teaching. I've been tutoring and loving it for nearly five years! I've always liked math, so when the opportunity came, it seemed like a good side job to start - but I quickly found a huge passion for teaching. I've even done it as a peer tutor in an AP Calc AB class in high school. I've learned a lot over the years from teaching a wide range of math levels, so I'm well experienced to help you :) My main goals are to build your skills in problem-solving, perseverance, and comprehension so you can have the confidence to start tackling problems on your own. I hope you'll consider me to be your partner in learning!

I teach higher level math best - middle-high school and above - because I am very skilled at understanding concepts and being able to explain and think about them in many different ways. This comes more into play in higher level math when you've become familiar with using numbers and formulas, but now need to work on building problem solving, logic, perseverance, and comprehension skills. I love to focus on helping you build these, so you can begin confidently tackling problems on your own. I will find the method of explanation that enables your understanding - because I recognize that it is different for everyone. Generally, when starting a new concept, I begin by explaining the idea behind it while going through a simple example, then I create a new example for us to go through together. For this, I try to have you struggle with it yourself while offering guiding questions. This helps you to build your own method of problem solving and get used to continuing to push through difficulty. As I encourage you to build these skills, I continually offer strategies that I've learned or built for myself - strategies for situational comprehension, and for approaching both problem-solving and learning new concepts. Finally, and most importantly, my number one priority is always to build trust. Learning is vulnerable, and being able to ask for help and openly make mistakes are the two most vital parts of the process. I will always be working to make you comfortable doing this with me, because my job is only about helping you.
