About Philipp
I am a first year Mathematics student at the University of Warwick and have been giving tutor lessons to various pupils for almost a year since I was in college.
Out of interest I read various books on mathematics and physics. Some books focusing more on pedagogy like 'How to solve it' by G. Polya, I find give a laid out view of practical ways to teach problem solving, which I find has slimmed down my teaching process to focus only on what's necessary. This with my experience tutoring gives the student more worth out of the time spent tutoring.

I teach answering exam questions based on Hungarian Mathematician G. Polya's methods of problem solving in his book 'How to solve it'.
To familiarise myself with the student's goals in the subject I will go through examples of written work provided by the student (for example by looking at a past paper). After picking out a topic I asses the student on their understanding. Putting together my assessment of the student's working out with his/her own comments together with my own experience in which topics are best fit together, I come up with a set of targets for the student.
I teach by example, illustrating the correct thought process to find the answer in some problem. I then provide a similar problem, asking the student to complete it themselves. Here I can see how the student thinks; by suggesting certain ideas I try to not do the students work for them, but instead have them ask the right sorts of questions for themselves so they can too lead themselves to the solution, scoring full marks of course.
