I rely on multiple methodology -- using The Feynman Technique is a Mental Model named after Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize Winning Physicist.
Also using the Chinese methodology to teach Math in particular -- till the student does not become proficient in addition, do not move to Subtraction and so on.
