About Emily
As a tutor I am unique in my experience performing Off-Broadway in New York City and subsequent knowledge of the industry, my prior experience teaching in both classroom settings and private lessons and my two degrees in theater and theater education. I have a bachelor's degree from Furman University in Theater Arts and a master's degree from New York University in Educational Theater while also studying physical theater at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy. While earning these degrees I practiced every acting method, gained considerable knowledge of theater history and production and worked under some of the most respected teaching artists of our time including Anna Deavere Smith, Denes Dobrei, and Leigh Fondakowski.

These lessons are for students ages 10 and up and at any level in their acting training. Whether you would simply like to pick up acting as a hobby, prepare for an upcoming audition, or are an experienced actor who would like to improve upon your craft with a new acting technique-these lessons are for you! In our first lesson we will get to know each other and establish what you would like to get out of acting lessons. For example, if you would like to prepare for an upcoming audition we would discuss the nature of the audition, select your audition materials together, and rehearse as I provide feedback, advice and lessons. If you would like to pick up a new skill like learning to read/act out Shakespeare or learn the Stanislavsky method, lessons would include assigning reading material for discussion, short lectures and practicing the methodology with monologues.

Perfect! Emily was very kind, knowledgeable, and honest in our intro lesson. Due to scheduling conflicts, I won't be continuing with her as a mentor, but would recommend her to anyone looking for some guidance in their acting journey!
