About Methusan

With a degree in Mathematics and studying medicine, I want to help students achieve their goals and make a difference in their lives'. I have a wide range of experiences in teaching, ranging from working in schools, one to one and group sessions. I want to show students that learning is not just about memorising and doing exams, it's about understanding how and why. Once this is built then it can be applicable anywhere. Having been a student and working in schools I have gathering certain techniques in which students will find very useful when studying. I have also gained an insight in what is expected by schools and exam boards. My teaching methods will ensure that the student has full understanding of a certain topic before moving on whilst working alongside the specification. It entails: mini tests, oral tests, quizzes and worksheets which will be set for homework. This will all be checked thoroughly to make sure that the understanding is gained and progression is being made. As a teacher I want to show initiative ideas of studying which will help the student achieve their best. I want to also show that studying can be fun when you put your mind it, setting independent goals which in turn will make the student feel more confident with their work. About the lesson

We moved to England from France 3 years before my daughter had her 11+ and she was struggling with her school work because of the language barrier. Methusan was amazing and he managed to boost my daughter's grades and confidence in school.

My cousin struggled with Maths at school and was worried he wouldn't achieve the grade he needed to get into his sixth form. Methusan did a wonderful job in tutoring him which allowed him to excel in his maths GCSE and develop an interest in the subject itself!

Methusan tutored my younger brother for his biology and chemistry GCSE exam. My brother at the start lacked confidence as science wasn’t his area of expertise, however Methusan encouraged and helped him not only to improve his grades but also increase his confidence and gave him a positive attitude towards learning.

I was Methusan instructor for an optional module on his Mathematics degree helping students with their teaching skills as preparation for them considering teaching as a career. As part of this module Methusan (1) spent 10 days in a local school and wrote up his experiences, (2) produced a lesson plan and risk assessment of the lesson plan using html (from scratch not using any package) and (3) made a presentation on his experiences. Methusan was very keen and able and completed all these tasks to a high standard.
